Shinsaku 'Shin' Fukayama, also of Sensory Lab, took home the silver trophy, while Jibbi Little of Skittle Lane took out the bronze.
 
The open air event, which was held in conjunction with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, drew a crowd of curious onlookers to Southbank's Red Stairs.
 
On Friday 04 March Celeste Dixon of Bar 9, Sam Taylor of The Baron, Fariz Yarid from Blossom and Vine, 'Shin' and Hao Zhe Yoh 'Howie' of Code Black Coffee entered the Open Heats.
 
Emerging victorious, Shin and Howie then took on the winners of the regional competitions on Saturday 05 March.
 
Southern Region champion Ben was the first competitor of the day, followed by Northern Region champion Sam Chapman of Dramanti Artisan Roasters. Next up, Western Region champion Andy Tseng of Pixel Coffee Brewers and then Central Region champion Jibbi Little of Skittle Lane.
 
Ben impressed judges with his Hungry Hummingbird, a Beautiful Fox and a Bustling Heart designs.
He was presented his award by Pura Milk's Nick Lowien.
 
Silverchef's Kieran Westlake and Espresso Connect's (representing Quamar grinders) George Stavros, presented the silver and bronze trophies.
 
Fortch Renda of Disave Espresso Equipment was on hand to provide technical support – although thanks to the two custom 3GR Hi Group Multi Boiler Ruggero's the Disave team provided - the competitors had no dramas with the espresso machines.
