Kellogs Cafe

Kellogg Company is offering a grrrr-eat new spot for cereal-lovers, with the opening of its first cereal cafe in New York City's Times Square. The maker of Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies said a bowl of cereal at the cafe, which opens July 4, will cost anywhere between $6.50 and $7.50 and can be eaten in or taken out

There are plans to launch a delivery service later in the year, the Battle Creek, Michigan-based company said.

The cafe is part of a push by Kellogg to reinvigorate US cereal sales that have declined as consumers choose healthier foods over sugary and processed products.

"We wanted to definitely embrace the history that Kellogg's has and the things that people love about Kellogg's, but it sort of reorients cereal in a new light and get people to think about cereal in a new way," Andrew Shripka said, associate director of Kellogg's marketing.

Personally I love cereal. I'm more of a Cheerios man myself but I love the concept. If you've every travelled with small children and need to get them something that they will most certainly eat I can't think of a better meal that a bowl of cereal and a glass of milk.

Now one as to wonder at the plan to try to use this as a plan to invigorate cereal sales. If you have ever done the shopping you know that cereal sales are flagging because of the cost. I'll pull up the data at a later date but I can confidently say that the cost of cereal increase coincides with the ill conceived decision to include ethanol in gasoline. The idea that we're growing corn to turn into ethanol to fuel our cars when there is a glut of oil in the world is a bit ludacris. My plan to increase cereal sales.

1. Subsidize electric cars by building a charging infrastructure.
2. Stop growing corn to feed cars.
3. Start growing corn to feed people.
4. Corn prices go down.
5. The price of corn flakes goes down.
6. Corn flakes with milk becomes an affordable nutritious breakfast.

I'd love to hear comments.

Cheers,
