Trying to decide where to meet for your first date? According to a survey conducted by the dating app Clover, Starbucks is the go-to for most Canadians.
The app recently introduced an "on-demand" feature that allows users to pick the time and location, and they’ll take care of finding you a date. Based on the 500,000 users that have used the feature, the number one meeting place was Starbucks.
“We were surprised to see most people choosing to meet at coffee shops and casual restaurants for their first date,” Clover’s CEO Isaac Raichyk says in a press release. “We expected fine dining, bars, and nightclubs to rank much higher, but clearly people want to meet in a relaxed environment.”
Among the top five were Tim Hortons, The Keg, Boston Pizza and Cactus Club Cafe.
While users are free to name any location as a potential meeting place – including independent restaurants or coffee shops – it’s interesting to note that food and drink places came out on top and that the most popular choices were major franchises, likely due to them having multiple locations. A few exceptions included Waterloo, Ont.-based Beertown Public House and Toronto’s Pizzeria Libretto, 180 Panorama and Snakes & Lattes.
“Men seem more willing to commit to a first meeting over dinner at a restaurant versus women who prefer being able to screen dates quickly over coffee,” Raichyk notes.
